Loans held for investment increased by
$160.5 million , or 24.6% annualized growth, from the end of the prior quarter -
Total deposits (excluding brokered deposits) increased by
$160.2 million , or 26.2% annualized growth, from the end of the prior quarter - Nonperforming assets to total assets of 0.54%, improving 2 basis points from the prior quarter
- Loans modified under the CARES Act decreased by 76% from the end of the prior quarter and now represent 4% of loans outstanding
- Net interest margin of 3.59% increased by 17 basis points from the prior quarter and was flat from the third quarter of 2019

The increase was primarily attributable to a 51 basis point decrease in the cost of total deposits and a 48 basis point decrease in the cost of borrowings (FHLB advances, long-term debt and subordinated debentures), partially offset by a 2 basis point decrease in the yield on average earning assets. Loan discount accretion contributed 8 basis points to the net interest margin in the third quarter of 2020, compared to 14 basis points in the second quarter of 2020.
